The first week of December, Dr. Alfred HuYoung led a team to Guatemala to hold three different clinics.
Las Camelias, located near Santa Apolonia is a small village in the mountains, about 7000 feet above sea level with only 2,000 people. This village never had a medical team with doctors visit them. Dr. HuYoung partnered with Laurie King, a nurse practitioner based in Guatemala. The team ministered to both the physical and spiritual needs of the people at the clinics they visited.
Several of the children with significant congenital defects were referred to the regional health center where they would hopefully be referred to Guatemala City for further intervention. Many of the elderly received treatment for their hypterstention since cardiologist, Dr. Mark Hiser was there.
Mrs. Theresa Hiser RN, assisted in the screening of the patients. Sara HuYoung shared the gospel with the patients as she explained the significance of the colored beads in the Good News bracelets she distributed to the children.
The team conducted the same ministry for the people in San Jose Chirijuyu - a small village near Tecpan, located in the side of the mountain.
Their last clinic was held in The Potter's House (Casa del Alfarero) in Guatemala City, right next to the infamous city garbage dump. Working together with their physician, Dr. Lucretia Hernandez, they saw some of her adult patients with more serious medical problems as well as a great number of children with acute issues.
Approximately 150 adults and 200 children were provided medical care and heard the Good News of salvation!
