Indianapolis April 27 - May 1, 2009

Day 3
We are continually blessed with the best volunteers any organization could ever hope for.  In Indianapolis this week volunteers from the MDRT Foundation, a great supporter of Kids Around the World, came from around the world to be part of the build.  We have volunteers from Belgium, England, New York, Texas, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and more.  These volunteers are some of the best in the business and gave one week to make a difference and an impact.  They are providing a sense of hope for the children of Indianapolis.  They put aside their business attire and put on jeans and t-shirts.  They worked in the rain and mud just for the children!  We want to thank them for their dedication, commitment, hard work and the privilege we have to call them our friends.

Day 1
Nearly 6 months ago we made our first trip to Indianapolis to visit several potential sites for the MDRT Foundation and Kids Around The World playground.  A site was chosen after viewing several locations and the planning began. Three months later notice was given to us that the site we chose could not be used for a playground.  We had to start all over again.  The team made a second trip to Indianapolis to meet with local organizers and look at other sites.  This was becoming a huge challenge.  When we traveled to Indy we heard of an area on the west side.  This was the other side of town from the first site.  We also heard it was next to a church that had an empty lot.  We called the church, but did not get an answer.  We stopped by the church and no one was there, but they did have a great lot.  It was a perfect site for a playground.  After lunch the team stopped by the church again.  They were able to speak with the Pastor and shared with him what we wanted to do.

The Pastor then shared with us the church’s desire to make an impact in their community.  Some of the land next to their church is used as a soccer field.  Across the street they have a basketball court and the one thing they have been praying for is a playground!  We also found out that they have been praying for more than two years for a playground but didn’t have the funds to build one till we walked into his office!  Incredible! God had a plan and we’re thrilled to be a part of it!

Today, the team from the MDRT Foundation began their work on the playground.  Other MDRT members are also working on 3 different Habitat for Humanity homes and a nearby retreat center for children with special needs.  There are more than 75 volunteers from across the country and even several from across the sea.  They have all come to make an impact in this neighborhood.
