Once again we had a great group of local volunteers including some regulars and some of the parents, families, and school faculty spend the week installing and making ready the wonderful new Syverson-Whitehead playground at Whitehead Elementary School. In less than 2 years the students raised nearly $20,000 to help bring their dream about. Then Illinois Senator Dave Syverson contributed $10,000 of his own money and combined that with Alderperson Nancy Johnson and some other local folks to bring in the final amount needed for this long-awaited playground. Principal John Ulferts worked tirelessly, not only in encouraging the students along the way, but actually spent a couple afternoons between meetings wheeling mulch to help get things ready for the Friday morning dedication. The rain that morning did little to stifle the excitement and enthusiasm in the students. Thank you to each of you who played a role in sponsoring, or installing the Syverson-Whitehead Playground!
